Vainglory is a free-to-play (FTP) Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) action video game developed and published by Super Evil Megacorp Studios for iOS and Android platforms. Vainglory was initially released for the iOS platform on November 2014. Almost a year after its release on the iOS platform, Vainglory was ported to Android on July 2, 2015. Since then, it has become one of the biggest online games on mobile as a result of constant updates, patches, and unique control system.

In Vainglory, players take on the role of over 30+ “Heroes” available in the character roster, each with their own individually unique abilities, weapons, and aesthetics. These Heroes are divided into three classes: Captain, Carry, and Jungler. Heroes share the same basic attributes based on the categories they fall in. For example, Heroes that fall in the Captain category have more durability and are tasked with protecting the Carry-class Heroes. Similarly, Carry-class Heroes have high attack power but less durability. Heroes also have a “talent” which increases their gameplay attributes based on the type of “talent” and is exclusive to Blitz and Battle Royale modes. These components all work together to create a chemistry between the Heroes so that players have to win the match using teamwork and strategic planning and not by random events or purchased items.

The goal of a standard game mode is to destroy the enemy’s Vaincrystal—a stationary object which is positioned at the end of each team’s bases. Players form a team of 3 players and battle it out against an enemy team to destroy their Vaincrystal. To reach the enemy’s Vaincrystal, players have to pass through turrets that aim on sight, while being aided by ally AI minions that serve as a distraction and/or cover to the turrets or enemy Heroes. The first team to destroy the Vaincrystal wins the game. A game can also be won if the opponents’ team is forced to surrender. Upon winning, the team that turns out the victor earns a currency called “Glory”, which enables players to buy Heroes. Winning the game also provides the players with experience points, which denotes their player level.

There two other game modes available on Vainglory except for the main standard one. This mode—called the “Battle Royale” mode—in which progression is faster and the battle is limited only to the lane (jungle is off-limits). This game mode is relatively short and ends at around twelve minutes. Another game mode is also known as “Blitz” mode, and in this mode, players have to earn either 15 or the most number of points within the 5-minute time-frame to win the game. Killing a “middle sentry/crystal sentry” or destroying turrets provides players with 3 points and killing an enemy Hero provides the team with a single point. In the case of a draw, extended gameplay starts, and the first team to score the first point wins the game.

Vainglory is ever-growing with a growing list of Hero characters and ability, as well as a real-time strategy system that is a fresh take on most mobile games these days. With unique controls and a skill-based combat experience, Vainglory is a MOBA experience that will make players come back for more.
