Farming Simulator 17 is the eighth installment in the Farming Simulator series of simulation video games developed by Giants Software and published by Focus Home Interactive, and was originally released for Microsoft Windows, OS X, PlayStation 3-4 and Xbox 360-One on October 25, 2016. It is the latest main installment in the series besides the PS Vita and Niintendo 3DS sequel titled “Farming Simulator 18”.
Farming Simulator 17 is a simulation game where players take on the role of a modern-day farmer tasked with harvesting crops and animals and expanding his/her farm in the process. Using an updated graphics and physics engine, Farming Simulator 17 provides an even more realistic take on the simulation genre and provides players with creative control over their farm like never before. Different ways to yield more crops and their prices have been introduced along with a wide variety of new crops like soybeans, sunflowers, and oilseed radishes. This installment also encourages more involvement and strategy from the user. Players have to apply fertilizers frequently, remove weed from the fields, and plough the fields after crops have been harvested for a set number of time.
Farming Simulator takes the vehicular selection further with an increased gallery of newer vehicles from authentic brands like Lamborghini, JCB, Kramer, Case IH, etc. More tools have been added to provide for harvesting different crops and woodcutting. Set in an open-world and highly-detailed North American environment, Farming Simulator features two maps: Goldcrest Valley and Sosnovka. Pigs have been added to the husbandry along with chicken, sheep, and cows from the previous games, and newer crops have also been added. Side-missions have also been added and improved from the previous games. Now players can do and perform tasks for other in-game farmers to earn money.
Farming Simulator 17 provides a richer multiplayer feature than the other games. Players can now join up with 15 other players in a co-operative experience where they manage their farms together and share mods, vehicles and equipment with each other over the world made possible via an Internet connection, providing extended hours of gameplay value.
Farming Simulator 17 provides an extensive support for modding, and since its release, several official mods for the game have been released which provide new vehicles, tools and even more advanced graphics updates among things. Giant Software’s support for modding has made sure that Farming Simulator 17 is an evolving gameplay experience for each player.
Since its original release on October 25, 2016, 4 DLCs for the game have been released which are downloadable from the official website, two of which are mod packs and all provide new vehicles and tools for use. The DLC titled “FarmCon 16 Media Vault” allows players to watch Community Events.
No sequels besides the PS Vita and Nintendo 3DS version titled “Farming Simulator 18”, released on June 6, 2017 have been released or announced.
